A Little Chicken Soup For Our Business Person’s Souls

By Jim Hessler

A little chicken soup for our business person’s souls: I was at a meeting with an executive peer group last week. This is a group of hard-working capitalists, interested in making their businesses very successful and reaping the rewards. This is a group I’ve been meeting with for years. They own or operate businesses with from a few dozen to hundreds of employees. They are the people who establish the culture for their businesses. And, to a person, they are of incredibly high character. I would trust any one of them with anything.

So I wasn’t surprised – and more than a little impressed – when one of my peers said he was going to steer one of his key employees to a better job with a different company – a job he’d been made aware of through his business network.  He couldn’t, in good conscience, not put this employee’s needs and aspirations above his own convenience.

We beat the hell out of bosses every day in our culture. They’re an easy target. But there are some great ones out there and I’m proud I know more than a few.
